The 2021 Ghostbuster-Afterlife movie can be seen as the fourth sequel to the 1984 Ivan Reitman-directed Ghostbuster movie. The film is also directed by Ivan Reitman himself, but his son Jason Reitman has done the final directing since Ivan Reitman passed away before finishing work on it. This film, which is considered to be one of the stages of a series of films that are related to each other in a good manner, is also wonderfully portrayed by the participation of actors and actresses who met in the original films. The film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd, alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver reprising their characters from the earlier films.
The story begins with single mother Callie moving with her children to the Oklahoma farm she inherited from her estranged father, Egon Spengler, whom Ghostbusters met in previous films. Located in a small town called Summerville, this farm is in a dilapidated state, and Callie’s children, Pheobe and Trevor, along with their friends, follow the mysterious secrets of the town and try to uncover their true heritage. The old equipment they find here, especially the Ecto-1 car with proton packs, etc., is a special feature of this film, which presents the concept of nostalgia in the new life.
Phoebe, and Trevor with his friend Podcast, Lucky, discover a Gozerian temple in a mine in Somerville. Upon further exploration, they discover that a ghost named Sandor is alive in his box and that the automated proton cannons installed by Egon are preventing him from breaking free. Callie and Gary take possession of them and destroy Egon’s equipment, allowing Gozer to escape. You have to watch the movie to know how this past event fits with the future.
Harold Ramis, who played Dr. Egon Spengler in the previous films, passed away in 2014, but his character is commemorated throughout this Ghostbusters-afterlife film.
It can be considered a sensitive tribute to him because the audience feels the presence of his character throughout the creation. While taking the series in a fresh direction through this fourth sequel, the new characters and actors introduced, namely the younger generation of Ghostbusters, present an exploratory perspective on the universe.
However, the specialty of this film is the ability of the director to successfully bring new characters forward while not suppressing the previous characters of the film. The exploratory conflict of these young children with memories and equipment can bind the audience throughout the 124 minutes of the film’s running time.
The curiosity and mysterious flavor generated through it, as well as the humor that emerges at times, will undoubtedly be a fresh memory for the audience until the fifth phase of Ghostbusters-Afterlife is revealed.The film has an IMBD rating of 7.1, with over 60 percent positive reviews on review sites like rotten tomatoes. Screenwriting issues have been pointed out as shortcomings here. In the end, however, I would like to note that it is a film that provides entertainment and satisfaction that can be enjoyed equally no matter what kind of movie fan you are.
